Read More View Comments | Post a Comment Share: Ebron charged in plot to escape from jail Submitted by Garrett Pelican on Thursday, August 27th, 9:50 pm JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The chief suspect in the disappearance of 21-month-old Lonzie Barton faces new charges following his arrest for an alleged plot to escape from the Duval County Pretrial Detention Facility. William “Ruben” Ebron, 32, is accused of concocting a plot to stash keys in his sock and mouth and then use them to slip out of his handcuffs, jump out of a jail van and escape in a getaway car, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrest report. Investigators found out about the plan Monday when another inmate came forward with multiple recorded conversations detailing how Ebron allegedly planned to escape from custody. “Ebron directed the inmate to have the getaway car placed east of the jail,” the report said. Ebron was arrested Thursday on charges of attempted escape from a jail, criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of a concealed handcuff key, and smuggling contraband into a detention facility, all felonies, jail records show. Read More View Comments | Post a Comment Share: Man shot in backside, suspects still at large Submitted by FirstCoastNews Web Staff Sunday, April 12th, 2015, 11:03am JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A northside man was taken to the hospital with several gunshot wounds to his backside late Saturday evening, police said. Suspects were still at large as of 1 a.m. last night, and police said they were canvassing the area. Two cars drove the northside man shot around 11 p.m. to UF Health and police met the occupants of the vehicles there to interview them. The only information police were able to glean from the victim was that unknown suspects shot at the vehicle he was riding in on W 25th Street. According to the staff at UF Health, the victim is not suffering from life-threatening injuries. All Community Sponsors Man crossing road hit by truck, taken to hospital Submitted by FirstCoastNews Web Staff Sunday, April 12th, 2015, 10:21am JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man in his 20s was hit by a truck while crossing the road Saturday night in Jacksonville's northside, officials said. At around 8:30 p.m., police arrived at the scene where a young man, unnamed by police, was crossing Rowe Avenue near the 1400 block and had been hit by a truck traveling northbound. Police said the young man was transported to UF Health and that staff there said the young man is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Traffic Homicide officers were called to the scene and are investigating. The investigation is ongoing and the driver of the truck is cooperating with police. Public records show the house belongs to Beverly Frazier, but the people living there are not related. "They're squatters in my mother's house," said Naomi Rosier. Darren Hilliard and Debra Estep are living in the house on New Berlin. They said they have permission to be there "We are not squatters," said Estep. "The police have been called several times and the police have read the lease." Read More View Comments | Post a Comment Share: Home destroyed, firefighter injured in Northside fire Submitted by FirstCoastNews Web Staff Monday, December 15th, 2014, 5:45pm JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A home in North Jacksonville is considered to be a complete loss after flames destroyed the residence Monday morning. Firefighters responded to the home off of Dunn Creek Road around 11:30 to find smoke and flames pouring out of the structure, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. The homeowner and his canine were able to make it out of the residence safely. A firefighter was injured during the firefight and was transported to UF Health with what are considered to be minor injuries, according to JFRD spokesperson Tom Francis. No cause of the fire was released by officials at the scene. The American Red Cross is helping the homeowner with accommodations.
